McKenzie Wins 100-Thousand Dollar Prize For “Werewolf”

New Waterford native Ashley McKenzie has won a 100-thousand dollar prize for her first feature film “Werewolf.”

The movie is this year’s winner of the Rogers Best Canadian Film Award.

The award was presented to McKenzie last night at a Toronto Film Critics Association gala.

Werewolf tells the story of a Cape Breton couple in a methadone recovery program.

It was shot in New Waterford, Glace Bay, Howie Centre, and Sydney.

Last year, MacKenzie picked up a Toronto Film Critics emerging artist award for the film.

That prize was worth 5-thousand dollars.
