by A former Cape Breton University administrator is due to be sentenced today on convictions of sexual touching and sexual interference with a person under the age of 14.
61 year-old John Shea McInnis from Glace Bay was due to be sentenced on the charges last month but the hearing was delayed after he filed a complaint with the province’s police watchdog.
The complaint related to testimony given by Regional Police Sergeant Ken Routledge at McInnis’s trial.
However, the Serious Incident Response Team or SIRT cleared Routledge of any wrong-doing in a decision released on Tuesday.
The girl in the case was between the ages of seven and 11 when the offences took place.
The now 23 year-old’s name is banned from publication.
The Crown is looking for a sentence of between four to five years in prison for McInnis followed by a lifetime designation as a sex offender.
The Defence is looking for a sentence of eight months to a year in jail followed by a three-year probation period.
