Marine Atlantic Ferry Freed From Ice

The Marine Atlantic ferry that was trapped in ice off Sydney Harbour was freed, last night.

The Crown Corporation says the MV Highlanders was able to continue on its way at around 8:00 when the MV Blue Puttees cut a path for it.

Meanwhile, Marine Atlantic says the Highlanders arrival back in North Sydney today has been delayed until noon.

It adds the MV Blue Puttees is on time to leave North Sydney at 7:15, this morning.

Marine Atlantic spokesperson Darrell Mercer says they weren’t expecting so much ice around Cape Breton.

However, northerly winds have pushed pack ice into Sydney Harbour.
