Man Who Discovered Wreck Of Le Chameau Dies

The man who discovered a legendary French shipwreck off the coast of Cape Breton has died.

Alex Storm was 80 years old.

Storm and his partners found Le Chameau and the gold and silver coins it was carrying in 1965.

The adventurer and treasure hunter went on to find other wreck sites and wrote three books about his experiences.

Many artifacts he found in waters off Nova Scotia and Newfoundland are now on display at the Marine Science and Heritage Centre on the Louisbourg waterfront.

A visitation for Storm will take place from 1:00 to 4:00 on Friday afternoon at Chant’s Funeral Home in Sydney.
