Man Charged With Second-Degree Murder

Twenty-eight-year-old Aaron Shaun Young from New Waterford has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Jim Matthews.

Young has also been charged with robbery with violence.

Regional Police say Young appeared in Sydney Provincial Court this afternoon and is in custody at the Correctional Facility.

Regional Police say Young is also facing robbery, weapons and breach charges after an attempted robbery in New Waterford last month.

Fifty-four-year-old Matthews was found dead in an apartment on Prince Street last month.

The Sydney Mines native owned the Prince Street Market and other local buildings and co-owned a financial firm in Halifax.

Young is scheduled to appear in court on the murder charges on October 10th.
