Man Charged in Murder of Jim Matthews Due Back in Court, Today

A New Waterford man charged with second-degree murder in the death of Sydney Mines native and business owner Jim Matthews is due back in court, today.

29-year-old Aaron Shaun Young also faces a count of robbery with violence in the Matthews case.

He’s also facing robbery, weapons and breach charges after an attempted robbery in New Waterford in August.

54-year-old Matthews was found dead in an apartment on Prince Street in Sydney in August.

Matthews owned the Prince Street Market and other local buildings and co-owned a financial firm in Halifax.
