Man Charged After Gas Station Robberies

A 50 year-old man has been charged after robberies at gas stations in Reserve Mines and Sydney early yesterday morning.

Harold James Desmond from Glace Bay is facing charges of Robbery, Assault and Theft.

Regional Police say they got a call just after midnight yesterday morning about a robbery at the Ultramar in Reserve Mines.

The store clerk tells police a customer dressed as a security guard came behind the counter and stole several cartons of cigarettes.

While on scene, police say they got another report of cigarettes being stolen from the Sobeys Fast Fuel on Prince St. in Sydney.

They say the man believed to be responsible for both robberies was later stopped on Richmond Street, where he was arrested and had his vehicle seized.
