MacLeod Raising Concerns About Funding Cuts to Destination Cape Breton

Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg MLA Alfie MacLeod is raising concerns about provincial funding cuts to Destination Cape Breton.

MacLeod says he’s recently learned the Island’s tourism industry association will lose 66 percent of its core and program funding.

The Progressive Conservative MLA is questioning the government’s move in light of a provincial goal to double tourism in the next ten years.

When asked about the cut in the Legislature, Tourism Minister Mark Furey didn’t address it directly.

However, he did say the province has to change its approach to tourism and marketing in order to meet the objective of attracting more visitors.

No one from Destination Cape Breton was available to comment on the funding cut.
