MacLellan To Step Down

For the first time in over a decade, Geoff MacLellan’s name will not be on a ballot in the next provincial election.

The Glace Bay MLA and Business Minister made the announcement after today’s cabinet meeting.

MacLellan says a number of factors influenced his decision, including his kids and Premier Stephen McNeil’s decision to leave politics.

MacLellan isn’t saying what’s next in his career, but he says he plans to stay in Cape Breton.

MacLellan is the sixth member of the Liberal caucus to announce they’ll not be seeking re-election.

He was first elected in a 2010 byelection and has been re-elected twice since.
