Housing and Infrastructure Minister Geoff MacLellan says the province is committed to working on the recommendations made in a new report handed in by the Affordable Housing Commission today.
MacLellan says he spoke to Premier Iain Rankin about the report this morning.
The 61-page report has 17 recommendations the commission says will help the province better meet housing needs.
Among the recommendations, the commission is calling on the province to make a number of quick-start investments, including a $25 million commitment to support between 600 and 900 households in need in the very near term.
The commission has spoken with 36 experts and over 2,000 people as part of the process of gathering public input over the past six months.
The province says it will be evaluating the report and discussing next steps with people in the affordable housing sector and other levels of government.
