Louisbourg School Protest News Conference, Today

The group trying to save the school in Louisbourg is holding a protest news conference later this morning after it says the School Board has, once again, turned down its proposal for a hub school.

The move comes after the George D. Lewis Gateways to Opportunity Society got approval from Education Minister Karen Casey for a hub school pilot project.

The Society is trying to keep George D. Lewis School open by getting local businesses and government organizations to rent space in the building.

Society interim manager Brett Hanham says they got a letter from the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board saying it’s decided not to go ahead with the pilot project as supported by the province.

Hanham adds the Board has given them no reason for its decision.

The news conference is due to take place at 11:00 this morning outside School Board offices on George Street in Sydney.
