Louisbourg Hub School Meeting

About fifty people came out for a meeting last night to learn about the plan to save George D. Lewis School in Louisbourg.

The Primary to Grade 8 school is one of 17 the Cape Breton Victoria Regional School Board has slated for closure.

But the Board has given a community group time to come up with a proposal for a so-called hub school.

Hub schools offer other uses for school buildings including space for offices or businesses that help make the facilities more viable.

Hub School Society Vice-President Brett Hanham told the crowd his group has met with potential tenants, including the Regional Municipality and Parks Canada.

However, he says the Society is also asking that an independent consultant make the final decision on their proposal.

The Society has a deadline of Tuesday to present its findings to the School Board.
