Liberals Win Election But Lose 3 Cape Breton Seats

The Liberals lost three Cape Breton seats in yesterday’s provincial election, despite their overall win of 27 seats.

Perhaps the biggest surprise was a loss for cabinet minister Michel Samson in Cape Breton-Richmond.

In Cape Breton Centre, the NDP’s Tammy Martin unseated Liberal incumbent Dave Wilton and former Tory MLA Keith Bain won back his seat from Liberal Pam Eyking in Victoria the Lakes.

Liberal incumbents Geoff MacLellan in Glace Bay and Derek Mombourquette in Sydney Whitney Pier held on to their seats.

And Progressive Conservatives Alfie MacLeod, Eddie Orrell and Alan MacMaster also held on to their Cape Breton seats.

They’re among 17 PC MLA’s who’ll form the official opposition while the NDP have seven seats in the Legislature.
