Liberals Call On Province To Deal With Bracket Creep

The Opposition Liberals are calling on the provincial government to deal with bracket creep.

The Grits say Nova Scotia’s income tax brackets aren’t tied to the consumer price index.

They say annual inflation in Nova Scotia rose to 7.5 per cent last year and, as a result, many Nova Scotians will find themselves in a higher tax bracket.

The Liberals say the Canadian Taxpayers Federation reports people in the province will pay on average $653 more this year in income tax than last year because of bracket creep.

They say Nova Scotia is one of two provinces that hasn’t dealt with bracket creep.
