Liberals Call For Emergency Session Of Legislature After ER Deaths

The Opposition Liberals care calling for an emergency session of the legislature with two people in the province dying after not being able to get emergency care.

37-year-old Allison Holthoff died after waiting more than six hours to see a doctor at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst on New Year’s Eve.

And, just yesterday, the family of 67 year-old Charlene Snow from Donkin reported she died within an hour of returning home after waiting for seven hours at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Emergency Department without being seen by a doctor.

Liberal Leader Zach Churchill and Shadow Minister for Health Brendan Maguire say Premier Tim Houston used an emergency session of the Legislature to debate MLA pay raises.

They say the current situation with emergency care needs to have the full attention of government in an emergency house session.
