Liberal Candidates Announced for Upcoming Byelections

The provincial Liberals have selected their candidates for the two seats left empty by the resignations of MLAs Alfie MacLeod and Eddie Orrell.

Sydney entrepreneur Marc Botte will represent the Grits in Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg.

And Regional Police officer Paul Ratchford will run for the Liberals in Northside-Westmount.

Ratchford will face provincial Department of Transportation worker Danny Laffin in the by-election.

He was acclaimed as the Progressive Conservative Candidate for Northside-Westmount on Tuesday.

MacLeod and Orrell stepped down to run for the Conservatives in this fall’s federal election.

The Premier’s Office says the by-elections will be called soon.
