Legislature Committee Dealing With Scathing Report on Ground Ambulance Service

The Legislature’s standing committee on public accounts is dealing with a scathing Auditor General’s report on the province’s ground ambulance service, this morning.

In a report released last month, Kim Adair says the ground ambulance service is in a critical state with the average wait time for an ambulance last year spiking from 14 to 25 minutes.

Adair says the Health Department has accepted all her 14 recommendations, including the reinstatement of accountability for Emergency Medical Care on response times.

Witnesses at this morning’s committee meeting include Paula Poirier, the President and CEO the private company that runs the ambulance service, Emergency Medical Care.

Deputy Health Minister Jeannine Lagassé and Health Authority President and CEO Karen Oldfield are also scheduled to appear.

Progressive Conservative members on the committee used their majority to defeat a motion from opposition members to invite representatives with the paramedics union as witnesses.
