It’s Davis Day

Today is Davis Day.

89 years ago today, on June 11, 1925, Bill Davis was shot and killed by company police near New Waterford, during a miner’s strike.

This year’s Davis Day commemorations will take place in Sydney Mines.

An ecumenical service gets underway at 10:00 this morning at Carman United Church.

That will be followed at 11:00 by the laying of wreaths and speeches,  during a ceremony at Miner’s Memorial Park on Pitt Street in Sydney Mines
