Stats Canada says the inflation rate for August was 4 percent.
That compares with a national inflation rate of 3.3 per cent in July and 2.8 percent in June.
As predicted, the federal agency says the year over year increase was fueled largely by an increase in the price of gasoline by .8 percent.
It says Canadians also paid more for rent and mortgage interest in August with a smaller increase in food prices compared with the previous month.
Nova Scotia’s inflation rate for August was 4.7 percent.
