Ice, Outages Affecting CB School System But Most Schools Still Open

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education says classes at Glace Bay Elementary are cancelled today because of a power outage.

Meanwhile, the Centre says other schools are open today but the effects of the weekend ice storm are keeping most buses off the road.

It says all buses have an emergency hatch that’s been frozen shut because of ice built up on the roof of the vehicles.

It also says there’s a safety risk for other drivers if the ice slides off while the buses are on the road.

The problem is not affecting buses North of Smokey, where the storm brought mostly snow over the weekend.

Buses in that area are running today.
