Iain Rankin is taking over as interim leader of the provincial Liberal party, starting today.
Sydney-Membertou MLA Derek Mombourquette has served as interim leader since the party was reduced to two seats in last year’s election.
Mombourquette is now taking on the duties of Liberal House Leader.
Rankin is calling for a comprehensive economic strategy in response to the Progressive-Conservative government’s projected $1.2 billion deficit in his first act as interim leader.
The Liberals plan to choose a new leader in November of next year.
