Progressive Conservative leader Tim Houston made an election campaign-style healthcare announcement outside the Regional Hospital in Sydney today.
Houston says his party will target six areas for health reform if it forms government.
They are access to care, recruitment and retention, and prevention and education.
The three other target areas are system modernization, addressing chronic illness, and local decision-making.
Houston says he chose to make the announcement in Cape Breton because its the part of the province hit hardest by Emergency Department closures and hospitals in the Regional Municipality have the highest mortality rates in the country.
