Houston, Cabinet Sworn-In

Premier Tim Houston says he’s planning to recall the legislature in mid-October.

The statement comes after Houston and his cabinet were sworn-in at the Halifax Convention Centre this afternoon.

Houston has appointed Inverness MLA Allan MacMaster as Finance Minister and Deputy Premier as well as Minister of Labour Relations and Minister of Gaelic Affairs.

Cape Breton-East MLA Brian Comer will be taking over the Office of Mental Health and Addictions and will also be the Minister responsible for Youth and Communications Nova Scotia.

Other highlights include Michelle Thompson as Health Minister, Becky Druhan as Education Minister and Karla MacFarlane as Community Services Minister as well as Brad Johns as the new Justice Minister and Attorney General and Kim Masland will lead the newly named Department of Public Works, formerly known as Transportation and Active Transit.

The Progressive Conservatives won 31 seats and a majority government in the August 17th election.

The Liberals were reduced to Official Opposition status with 17 seats while the NDP have six.
