Houston Announces Money For CBU Med School

Premier Tim Houston has announced $58.9 million to develop a medical school at Cape Breton University.

Houston made the announcement at CBU this afternoon.

The province says the school will train 30 new doctors a year in collaboration with Dalhousie University’s faculty of medicine.

The training will include special training in rural health needs such as aging and disease prevention, as well as Indigenous and African Nova Scotian health.

The project will also include a new collaborative care clinic at the Community College in Sydney and an expansion of CBU’s health and counselling centre.

The new medical school is expected to open by the fall of 2025.
