History Day at Fort Petrie, Today

The Fort Petrie Museum in New Victoria is marking a sombre Second World War anniversary on its annual History Day, today.

77 years ago today, a so-called Slow Convoy of merchant ships left Sydney Harbour.

Over the coming days 16 of its 65 ships were sunk after being attacked by Nazi submarines.

The Museum preserves Fort Petrie’s role guarding Sydney Harbour, during the war.

Halifax Citadel Army Museum curator Ken Hynes will be at the Museum today to donate artifacts from the Second World War for the Museum’s collection.

History Day runs from 11:00 this morning until 4:00 this afternoon.
