The Progressive Conservatives are proposing what they’re calling the most significant growth plan for rural roads in the province’s history.
PC Leader Tim Houston says a Tory government would double the budget of the Gravel Road Reconstruction Program to $40 million and the Rural Impact Mitigation Fund to $22 million a year.
Meanwhile, Iain Rankin says a re-elected Liberal government will support the federal government’s goal of allowing spending on fire hall infrastructure to qualify under the Canada Community-Building Fund Program, formerly known as the Gas Tax Fund.
Fire stations had not been eligible for funding under the program—something the Liberals say disproportionately affected rural stations.
Elsewhere on the campaign trail, NDP Leader Gary Burrill will be in St. Peter’s this evening to meet with Richmond candidate Bryson Sylliboy.
Also contesting the Richmond riding are Progressive Conservative Trevor Boudreau, Liberal Matt Haley and Independent Alana Paon.
