Hemp Crop At Former Steel Plant Site

The former Sydney Steel plant site will become home to an experimental hemp crop, this spring.

Health Canada has granted a company owned by well-known, local businessperson Parker Rudderham a license to grow hemp on the former coke ovens site.

Highland Hemp says hemp seed oil is a natural, whole food that can be used in a variety of applications and dietary supplements.

The company adds the plant has thousands of uses ranging from food, clothing, plastics, paper and building materials.

Rudderham says they’re going to process the oil from the hemp plants in the fall and then market it.
