Heavy Garbage Pickup Underway Today

The Regional Municipality’s heavy garbage collection is underway today.

People were asked to have their large, heavy or bulky materials by the side of the road by 6:00 this morning.

The annual service will cost 250-thousand dollars and take about two weeks to complete.

The Solid Waste Departments says crews will focus on areas where cruise ship tourists will visit first.

It adds that includes northend and downtown Sydney as well as Louisbourg and the Miners Museum in Glace Bay.

People are being reminded some items cannot be put out for heavy garbage collection because they have to recycled.

Old tires, electronics such as computers and TV’s and propane tanks will not be picked up.

For more information, people can visit the CBRM’s website or phone the Waste Management Hotline on weekdays at 567-1337.
