Heavy Garbage Going Ahead

Regional Council voted to go ahead with heavy garbage pickup at last night’s council meeting.

Solid-waste manager Francis Campbell says he’d like to see the curbside collection of old furniture, appliances and other large items begin on Monday.

However, he adds it will be decided this week if they can make that start date.

He goes on to say heavy garbage pickup will cost around $235,000 and take about three weeks to complete.

The move to go ahead with heavy garbage pickup comes after uncertainty over whether it would take place this year.

Meanwhile, Staff is planning to put together an issue paper that explores holding heavy garbage collection every second year.

The municipality also wants to remind people that material is accepted free of charge, year-round at the waste facility off the Sydney Port Access Road.
