Cape Breton singer-songwriter Heather Rankin has been appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada.
Rankin is one of 88 new appointments to the Order announced today.
Rankin is being recognized as a member of the award-winning Rankin Family band.
The announcement of her appointment says her solo albums and performances have inspired fans from coast to coast to coast.
It says she’s a revered icon of Cape Breton music and a generous mentor in her field.
Meanwhile, Former CTV News at Six anchor Steve Murphy has been named a member of the Order of Canada.
