Hearings on Bill 148 Continue, Today

The Law Amendments Committee hearing on the McNeil government’s controversial Bill 148 resumed at 8:00, this morning.

The bill could see a wage settlement imposed on the province’s 75-thousand public sector workers.

The Liberals used their majority to see that it passed Second Reading after a marathon 22-hour session in the Legislature, yesterday.

The day wrapped up with the bill going to the Law Amendments Committee that was due to hear from a total of 18 people until 10:00 last night.

Some people who wanted to speak at today’s hearing are complaining because they’ve been turned away due to a lack of time.

The Public Services Sustainability Act includes a two-year wage freeze, followed by annual raises of one per cent and 1.5 per cent, with a half per cent at the end of year four.

It’s similar to the wage package teachers rejected earlier this month and that civil servants were due to vote on early in the New Year.
