Health Authority Announces Emergency Department Measures

The Health Authority is announcing measures meant to train and keep nurses in emergency departments.

The measures include professional development opportunities for triage nurses working in emergency departments, including the RN prescribing course.

Nurses will also be able to apply for grants worth between 5-thousand and 15-thousand dollars to develop innovations that focus on workplace improvement.

Nova Scotia Health says there’s a goal to increase the number of spots in the emergency nursing program from 120 to 200 in each of five locations in the province, including Sydney.

And the Health Authority says it’s bringing in a peer support program this month for all nurses working in Emergency Department settings.
