Guilty Plea Entered In Fatal Crash Case

A New Waterford man has pleaded guilty to charges laid after a fatal crash on the Sydney-Glace Bay Highway last summer.

29 year-old Justin Ronald Burke was scheduled to go on trial today on two counts of failing to remain at the scene of an accident involving death and two counts of breaching court orders.

Instead, he pleaded guilty to one count of each charge and the other two counts were dismissed.

Regional Police say a woman in her 30’s and a man in his 40’s were found dead at the scene after a pickup truck crashed into a pole between Cape Breton University and the Ultramar gas station last August.

Police were looking for a man with injuries who was seen running away from the crash site.

They say that person was found the next day.

Burke is now due back in court for sentencing on October 8th
