Glace Bay Woman Avoids Jail for Stealing from Her Grandparents

A 27-year-old Glace Bay woman will avoid jail time after admitting to stealing $110,000 from her grandparents.

Jillian Maureen Cameron was handed a two-year conditional sentence less a day, followed by a year of probation, yesterday.

Cameron’s grandparents called police in July of 2012 after discovering $110,000 was missing from a home safe.

Police recovered about $32,000 of the missing money under a floorboard in Cameron’s home that she shared with her partner Scott Carl Anda.

Anda has pleaded guilty to break and enter and will now be sentenced on March 18.

The remaining $77,000 is believed to have been spent over a three-month period on such things as an above ground swimming pool, a motor bike, clothes, a bed and minor repairs to their home.

The Crown says a large portion of the cash went toward buying drugs.

Cameron was also handed a restitution order for $77,000.
