Glace Bay volunteers cleaning up at the beach

A group of volunteers in Glace Bay is organizing a cleanup of the beach at Schooner Pond in Donkin this weekend.
Cape Breton Environmental Association president Dylan Yates says fishing gear blown ashore at the beach is a threat to birds and marine life.
Yates says the public is invited to the community beach cleanup today from noon to 3:00 in the afternoon.
Area Councillor Amanda McDougall says the Regional Municipality will help the group dispose of debris from the beach.
Once that cleanup is done, Yates says his group will focus on other Cape Breton beaches, including the one in Inverness.
