Glace Bay Fire Chief Glad To See Street Open

The chief of the Glace Bay Fire Department says the opening of a former dead end street in the community will help improve emergency response times.

The Cape Breton Regional Municipality has now connected Sherbrooke Street by extending it through the former St. Michael’s Junior High School property to King Edward Street.

John Chant says the move means 35 to 40 per cent his members will be able to get to the Reserve Street fire station faster.

Local councillor George MacDonald organized and was part of meetings to discuss improving access for the fire department.

MacDonald says the Fire Department was also struggling to get to side streets in the area by having to go around through Main Street.

Regional councillor and former school board member Darrell Flynn also says it’s great to see the extension.
