GB Dialysis Unit Complete

Glace Bay MLA and Business Minister Geoff MacLellan hosted an event this morning to celebrate the completion of the new Tom Peach Renal Dialysis Clinic at the Glace Bay Hospital.

The province says the new six-station unit will begin treating patients later this month.

The clinic was originally due to be finished in the spring but there were delays because of COVID-19.

A $1.7-million bequest from the estate of the late Thomas Peach from Glace Bay helped pay for the project.

The province kicked in the remaining $5.8 million.

The new clinic is intended to reduce pressure on the Regional Hospital’s dialysis unit in Sydney and cut down on travel time for patients in the Glace Bay area.
