Gardiner Mines Man Declared Not Criminally Responsible In Wife’s Death

A Gardiner Mines man has been found not criminally responsible in the death of his wife.

40 year-old Richard Wayne MacNeil was charged with first degree murder in the death of Sarabeth Forbes in April.

MacNeil has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, and the ruling in his case yesterday came after a two-day hearing last week when psychiatrists testified MacNeil suffered from delusions and paranoia.

He’s been remanded to the East Coast Forensic Hospital in Dartmouth, where his treatment will be determined by a review board.
