Funeral arrangements for former Northside Councillor Charlie Keagan have been finalized.
Keagan died on Tuesday after suffering a stroke.
A funeral mass for Keagan will take place at St. Joseph Church in North Sydney at 11:00 on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, it’s too soon to say if a by-election will be held to fill Keagan’s vacant council seat with municipal elections scheduled for November.
Municipal Councils are required to call a by-election within four weeks of a vacancy and hold a vote 11 weeks after that, but by-elections usually can’t be held within six months of a general election.
While Keagan was recovering from a recent heart attack, the Regional Municiaplity told any of his constituents who needed help to call the Councillor’s Office at the Civic Centre in Sydney.
Deputy Mayor George MacDonald says it’s not clear if that process will change, but adds it will work for now.
