Cape Breton Liberal MP’s Mike Kelloway and Jaime Battiste announced $17.1 million in federal money this morning for water infrastructure for two housing developments in the CBRM.
The Tartan Downs housing project in Sydney is getting money for a new water main and sewer as well as new stormwater piping and a stormwater retention pond.
Ottawa says the infrastructure will allow for the immediate development of 145 housing units on the site with a total of 600 new housing units slated for the development in the next four to five years.
Cape Breton University donated 10 hectares of land at the Tartan Downs site for the development that includes student and senior’s housing as well as affordable housing.
Money was also announced today for a new drinking water supply for CBU’s campus that will also supply drinking water to the neighbouring Tanglewood subdivision development.
