Funding Announced For Second Cruise Ship Berth

The province and Ottawa announced a total of 13.3 million dollars in funding for a second cruise ship berth in Sydney, this morning

The Regional Municipality has already set aside its share of funding for the project.

Cape Breton’s two Liberal MP’s Rodger Cuzner and Mark Eyking were on hand for the announcement as well as Premier Stephen McNeil and provincial Transportation Minister Geoff MacLellan.

Mayor Cecil Clarke  and some Regional Councillors were also there the announcement at the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion.

The province says the 287-metre second berth will accommodate larger cruise ships increasingly being used by cruise lines.

Meanwhile, Premier McNeil will make another funding announcement in Sydney, this afternoon.

That event is due to get underway at the former Mira Road Elementary School on George Street at 1:00.
