Funding Announced For Miners Museum and South Street Park

The Miners Museum in Glace Bay is getting more than 1.5 million dollars in government funding for urgent repairs to the building.

The announcement was made at the museum, this morning.

Ottawa and the province are each kicking in 537,500 dollars for the project.

The Regional Municipality is contributing 487,500 dollars.

Funding from the three levels of government was also announced this morning for the group working to revitalize South Street Park.

The Glace Bay Community Commons Society is getting at total of 3-hundred-thousand and 5-hundred dollars.

The province and the Regional Municipality are each contributing a hundred thousand while the federal government’s share is a hundred-thousand and five-hundred.

The Society has already raised 40-thousand dollars for the project that includes improvements to a fenced-in area, new lighting for the walking track, as well as a new splash pad and baseball-themed playground equipment.
