Funding Announced For Elizabeth Fry Society

The Elizabeth Fry Society of Cape Breton is getting $559,000 dollars from the province to set up a housing program for women leaving jail or prison.

It says the Axis Point Program is the first transitional supportive housing option for adult women on the island.

It provides housing for six women at two properties in the Sydney area.

The money will be used for operations and on-site services that include 24-hour staffing, mental health and employment services and helping women find permanent housing.
