French Flag Raised At Civic Centre

A few dozen people gathered at the Civic Centre in Sydney yesterday for a noon-hour raising of the French flag.

The ceremony was meant to show solidarity with the people of Paris after Friday’s deadly terrorist attacks.

It featured a moment of silence, the laying of wreaths and the playing of “O Canada” and the French national anthem, “La Marseillaise.”

Local politicians and municipal police and fire officials were also on hand for the service.

Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs says a Canadian francophone woman was injured during the Paris attacks on Friday.

An embassy official in Paris says she’s in stable condition.

No other information is being released for privacy reasons.

The attacks left 129 people dead and 350 wounded.
