Four Northside Schools Recommended For Closure

The committee looking a closure options on the Northside is recommending that four schools be closed.

The recommendations were released last night before a crowd of about 170 people at Memorial High School gym.

On the list for closure are Sydney Mines Middle School, Thompson Middle School in North Sydney, St. Joseph’s Elementary in Sydney Mines and Seton Elementary in North Sydney.

Under the plan, all Grade 6 to 8 students on the Northside will go to  Dr. T.L. Sullivan Middle School in Bras d’Or.

Students from St. Joseph’s elementary will be transferred to Jubillee and those at Seton Elementary will go to Ferrisview School.

Last night’s meeting was the final one in five families of schools where options committees released closure recommendations.

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board is expected to make final decisions on school closures in April.
