Former MLA Mike Laffin Dies

Long-time, Cape Breton MLA Mike Laffin has died at the age of 101.

Laffin represented Cape Breton Centre as a Progressive Conservative from 1963 to 1974, and again from 1981 to 1988.

He was appointed to cabinet as Minister of Housing in 1981 and was shuffled to the Government Services portfolio in 1985.

Also during his time in the Legislature, Laffin punched fellow Cape Breton MLA Paul MacEwan in the face in 1973 after the two got into a heated argument over water problems in New Waterford.

Laffin also had a career as a dentist and was a prisoner of war during the Second World War.
