Former MLA & Health Minister Ron Stewart Has Died

Former Nova Scotia Health Minister and Cape Breton North MLA Dr. Ron Stewart has died at the age of 82.

Stewart was in hospital following cancer treatment.

He entered provincial politics in 1993 when he was elected as the Liberal MLA for Cape Breton North.

He was appointed as Health Minister in June of 1993 and oversaw a reform of the province’s health care system that started in 1994.

Stewart resigned from cabinet in June of 1996 and resigned as MLA in September of 1997.
