Former Chair of Devco Pensioners’ Association Dies

The former chair of the Devco Pensioners’ Association has died.

Sam Boutilier headed the group when it successfully fought to secure surplus pension for miners.

He was the Progressive-Conservative candidate in the former federal riding of Cape Breton East Richmond in 1993 and also ran in municipal politics.

He served as a school board member and on the County Recreation Committee, as well.

His wake will take place at Patten Funeral Home in Glace Bay tonight and tomorrow.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 on Wednesday afternoon at St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Port Caledonia.
