Flu Vaccine Available Next Week

The provincial Health Department says the seasonal flu vaccine will be available for free from most pharmacies, family doctors, family practice nurses and nurse practitioners across the province starting on Monday.

Everyone over six months old is being encouraged to get the vaccine this year.

The Department says it can take up to two weeks for the vaccination to work and people should get vaccinated in the coming weeks to see the full benefit before flu season arrives.

That usually happens in late December or early January.

Because of COVID-19 precautions, the process for getting the flu vaccine will be different this year.

Changes may include pre-screening for illness or exposure to COVID-19, requiring an appointment instead of accepting walk-ins, keeping physical distance whenever possible and wearing masks indoors.
