Flags lowered in CBRM to mourn residential school victims

Mayor Amanda McDougall says flags across the regional municipality will be lowered to half-mast tomorrow to mourn the 215 victims of the Kamloops Indian Residential School, whose remains were found last week on the former grounds of the school.

In a Tweet posted this morning, the mayor says the flags will be lowered for 215 hours, one hour for each of the children who lost their lives at the school.

McDougall says the lives lost highlight the need to honour and live in the spirit of reconciliation every day.

A ground-penetrating radar survey conducted last week on the former school’s ground uncovered the mass grave last week.
